Hi there, Im new to this web site, I see it as an oppurtunity to gain knowledge and know people.
I have a nissan patrol 2003 with a turbo kit from bin sulayem performance, i did 10,000 km since i fitted it, everything seems to be fine, but i started to hear some strange noises while driving especially at higher speeds, i've been told it the front differential.
anyone faced a similar situation.
By the way, the exhaust system they use is too noisy, i had to replace the two mufler at fox workshop, but it reduced the power by great amount..

Hey Surfer, Look Bin Sulayem gives warranty on his installed equipment, go back and see him. You definitively lost a lot of power if you can't hear the noise anymore that's because the mufflers are now doing their jobs in restricting gas flow hence lower noise.
Differential, possible but unlikely. In any case just check the levels inside for grease (BP90 on patrols). It could be metal grinding! Is the noise coming along when yuo are clutching? If that's the case then look no further that's your clutch box (seen it on one of his mod car). Any other noise, not quite sure, could've blown a lot of stuff since now your engine is turbo charged, how much boost do you have now? Is there a turbo timer (dial that keeps the turbine running for a period of time set on the timer when car is coming to a stop)? How hot does the car run when at full speed? Did you change the computer (MOTEC instead of stock)? Etc.... That's why you have a warranty

thanks jimbo for the reply, The warranty given by bin sulayem is on their kit (12000km), which is working fine till now. The noise is coming from somewhere else. I took the car to arabian automobiles in sharjah, they refused even to look at the car although i told them that i will pay for it. I then took it to dubai arabian automobiles, they checked it and found out that one of the noises was coming from the gear, they changed around 10 parts in the gear box on the warranty !!
the noise im talking about will be heard at speed around 120, it will change as you vary the pressure on the accelerator.
bin sulayem guys said its just a noise coming from the differential and it not serious.
i saw a guy once with the same kit and the same noise.
the boost now is 6 psi, the next stage they have is 8 psi and air filter kit ( additional 50 hP). the car showed 339 HP on the dyno (before installing the fox muffler).
the temp is normal as it was before, and the computer used is called LINK (included in the kit).
the car can now easily reach 220, but the rpm will be in the red zone, otherwise it will go faster than that. in the desert, its like you have installed another 4800 in addition to your existing one, big difference man.
Generally im happy with it, but i wanted to share my experience with other guys who has it, i heard that there are around 500 cars fitted with the car in the market.

Surfer, Good luck. Weird though, never heard a Patrol differential make noise! Ya good thing you can only redline the car, that means your cutoff hasn't been removed (still 5,400RPM?). If that was teh case then you would have pistons flying all over due to lack of lubrication, better for you. Speaking of which, watch out for the oil pump, it seems on Patrol it has a bad rep, a bit weak especially when running at high pressuue, high RPM which is what you are doing now. Ya, I've tested one of these safari turbo kits on a 4.500 short wheel base and got a ride in a similar car to yours, NICE rides for sure. Ya Nissan should definitively setup a performance shop, why they don't beats me. Instead you get some grease monkeys telling you non sense to avoid paying any parts at all on the warranty. Annnnnoying little guys.

Hi Surfer,
Nice to hear about your turbo-blown 4800- has it made a lot of difference to the fuel consumption and what's the turbo lag like on it?? I thought it would give out quite a lot more than 340hp, even at 6psi- is it a small, metal job or a ceramic one?

there is a turbo lag, but not that much, they were claiming to have a computer chip that will make it better, but the guy there couldnt configure it.
i was able to beat a bmw 540 before i change the exhaust, im not sure how much power i lost, but i wasnt able out beat an X5 the other day (from 110 km to 160, we were together)
the 340 hp is the power "on the wheels" as they say, out of the engine will be more, around 400, they claim that the standard 4800 engine produce around 216 hp on the wheels. When drive the car you will notice a big difference, the tyre will scream at 80 km and it reaches 220 easily, it like you are driving a V8 saloon.
the only issue is that you will start to hear so many noises, which gets worse as time passes.

Surfer,
just a small note on the noise that you hear.. i have a Nissan Petrol 4500 1999 model, i have recently changed the engine cause the poston has completely distroied the block which took me around a month to find. in that period i was in the garages most of my time.. nearly one of them now!!
it was recommended by a good friend of mine who's speciallized in Fixing the Nissan that you should adjust your delco again.
try it.. it works.

Regarding the Jeep thing, I bought a 97 wrangler 3 years ago and after three days it suddenly started to make a grinding noise from under the floor board. I thought the gear box was f..ed. I took it to a little garage in Sharjah and it turned out the be the key in the power stearing pulley that was worn and the rattling/grind came from there.
I know it is not relevant as it occured all the time and not when shifting gears but just to let you know that sound travels in strange ways in wranglers, from the front left of the engine compartement to the center middle of the thingypit
Good luck
