Another post by Abdullah mentioned some reports that the 60CS had a tendency to "freeze" during regular tracking and track back modes. This happened on my unit several times. I approached Radio Shack on this issue and they claimed not to have received any complaints to this nature....Surprise surprise. They couldnt offer any advice either. However I went to see the guys at ADCOM in Abu Dhabi and they indeed confirmed there is a software update released on November 12th which should cure the problem. The units currently on sale have firmware Version 3.50 which needs to be updated to version 3.60. ADCOM updated my unit on the spot free of charge, alternately I think you can go to the Garmin updates website and do it from there. But don't qoute me on the latter, I havent tried it.

Thanks Simon for posting this. Since my 60cs is fairly new I am still getting to grips with this. Also this being my 1st GPS.
Abdulla, if u r reading this post and u have not yet bought the 60cs, it costs 1799/- in carrefour only 145/- more than if you bought it on the net but tremendously cheaper than AMIT.

No, I'm not reading this post.. ;D Yes, I got the same price (1799) in carrefour.. I don't know how this (9,99,999..etc) craze started. Will anyone believe me if I tell you that around 5 years ago I went to an auto showroom and they told me " this car is 1,999 model sir..?!!" LooooL "not so funny" I found some online shops offering around Dhs.1500/- Exc. shipping cost which is around $30. Anyway, I'm going to buy it from carrefour. Kind Regards, Abdulla

Go for it Abdullah,
However go to ADCOM for support on this unit, they are superb, and I urge you and all users of 60CS to get the software update. Carrefore just sell you the GPS and it would appear they cannot offer any technical backup. The same goes for Radio Shack.........Useless!

Abdullah,
They are on Khalifa Street opposite Omeir Travel agency located in a pinkish coloured glassy tower on the ground floor. Next to the souk, good luck parking around there its a nightmare! But once you do get there you will be rewarded with a well stocked shop and very knowlegeable, helpfull salesmen. Something you do not find to often around here.
Regards,
Simon.

Good point about mapsource update Bjorn, I noticed recently that exporting map files from gdb format to mps format for others on older versions to read, is not working properly. If everyone updates to 6.3 and the gdb version, then we can all share the same files. Backward compatibility is not working. Another comment, I also noticed some poeple complaining that the new version is not recognizing the GPS anymore. that's not a garmin problem, this is a windows XP problem, however, that can easily be fixed. the problem is mainly due to poeple who have just moved from a serial port unit to a USB port unit, your windows is still looking for the gps in the serial port, hence telling you it's not there. while at the same time people have upgraded the software but did not update the garmin USB driver. Go to garmin and download this utility www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=595 (click on "I agree" and download all the updated drivers. Then you should not have any recognition problems. Fouad

SimonH, Bjorn, Fouad and Bryan...: A day B4 Yesteday I bought the 60CS from car4.. (V 3.4) It was hanging alot.., I did update the version to 3.6, and now it is working well... ;D But, Mapsource trip &... isn't working on my PC, It is showing some C++ error (runtime error).. and I tried the updated version as well but the problem still exist.. + Compatibilty issue: I have an AMD processor with VIA's chipset main board and USB2.0, which is incompatible with Garmin devices. www.garmin.com/support/faqs/faq.jsp?faq=413&webPage=MainwebpageAnyway I will give it a second try after formatting the harddisk (Since I don't want to use my wife's pentium3 800 Mhz)... (Guys thing.. EGO..).. ;D Otherwise go compatible...Go Serial..(Really..OLD IS GOLD).. Anyway, I got the 60CS update from my friend's PC.

Well I guess Garmin's software updates are made new PCs in mind. I dont have connectivity issues, well I had but solved it with the driver update. anyway, using the serial port is REALLY slow on big files takes about 1.5 minutes, with the USB it's INSTANT, I mean zap instant, really fast.

Well, at the moment I'm backing-up my files in order to format my H.disk.. It is really fast using USB..yesterday I downloaded all routes and way points from the site in glimpse of eye.. but Fouad it shoudn't take that much (1.5 min) for one file through serial port.. you may have to check your BOIS settings.. afterward check port setting in windows device manager.. try the maximum value..(Baud rate)..
