Hi everybody, I was wondering if any one knows where to find one these boards that can be placed under the jack when lifting the car on the sand, i've looked in so many places, but could'nt find one. It helps alot if you are trying to change a tyre in the desert.

And why not just carry a wodden board/plank cut out big enuf and thick enuf to support the jack. Thats what I carry into the desert. As a matter of fact it is in my car permanently as is all my recovery equipment.

I had one of those wodden boards, but the problem is that it damages the interior of the car, and its too bulky to be put in a bag.

I made one up from a couple of pieces of 1/2 inch marine ply wood screwed together sized about 16 x 12 inches. The size doesent necessarily have to be exactly that it was just that the wood was an offcut that size. On top of this I screwed a piece of 1/8 inch aluminium checker plate for a bit of grip and appearance. As regards the board damaging your car, I carry all my offroad recovery gear in an "Action Packer" box I bought from Ace Hardware. It stops any damage to the interior and keeps it all tidy. Hope this helps.

"Action Packer" box I bought from Ace Hardware. How big is this box Simon? Which ACE, which section and how much? I carry my ropes and shackles in a backpack. The rest of the stuff is under my 3rd row seat.

The box is L24" x W18" x H18" maybe a bit big for some but its got everything in there, engine oil, coolant, fan belt and recovery stuff. There are larger and smaller sizes available to suit your needs. I picked it up from Ace in Abu Dhabi but I'm pretty sure other branches will stock them.
