I just would like to know how many of you have a winch ? Drop me a note, even you do not have one.

I don't have one. I was thinking if there are two vehicles at least and a good KERR rope then a winch would not be reqd. How usefull is one if your are alone in the desert.? I personally would like to have one but the cost versus use is very high. Prasad.

Hey Prasad, Log on to www.pullpal.com, This will give you an idea about what you can do with a winch and if you are alone. We have developped this product and made it better and lighter in order to be better suited for soft sand use... Difflock

Well logically speaking, there's no use having a pullpal without having a winch. If you're stuck, you can attach the pulpal to the vehicle with a strap....and then what ?? who's doing the pulling ? hehehe.

As you know Fouad, I do have a winch on my Patrol. It has saved not just myself but others on a trip with me on more occasions than I can remember.
Where it has been really useful (on more than one occasion) was righting a rolled vehicle. It is so much smoother using a winch to do this than using a tow strap.
I've never seen the situation where two vehicles (one with a winch and the other being winched) end up nose-to-nose. To me, that smacks a little of poor planning of the recovery.
When I use the winch, I always make sure that I position myself so that either my vehicle or the other one can move off afterwards.
They're great tools - best money I ever spent on my vehicles.
