Has anyone come across good tent pegs. The ones supplied and available in places like ACE are useless for Sand.
What we need is stakes of around One foot in lenght?

I know this is going to sound very strange to some of you, but hey necessity is the mother of invention and it works.
I use those curly metal rods used for strapping dogs in the garden. some of you who have been out with in overnight trips may have seen me used them. you just twist them into the ground like you would opening a winr bottle and that's it, there's no wind able to pull these babies out.
I bought but them at ACE, in the garden & pets section. No hamering no forcing you just twist them down the sand.

If that doesn't work, head down to your local supermarket.
I haven't used tent pegs in years. I always take a set of plastic carrier bags and fill them with sand or rocks and tie them to the tent lines, or if there's big rocks around I simply hook the lines around one of the rocks.
Works like a charm...

Hmmmm..... So simple yet I never thought of that. Although I should, you learn this in basic military training, yet I forgot all about it.
Thanks for the reminder Laurie.

As Laurie mentioned, I take along 4 block of interlocking, put the line around it, dig a hole chuck it in and fill up - Voila, never had any problem (just the weight in the car) which makes me think that lauries plastic bag seems better since it weighs nothing.
Other more versatile solution is steel rebar like they use in concrete fabrications. These can be cut to half meter and bent at the end just like a normal pegs. Works well and is suitable in most terrains (if you have a good hammer)

Plastic bags are a good idea but I prefer using empty buckets, they will not reap or crack. Each bucket, once filled with sand will be about 50 kg heavy. Easy to store if they fit into each other in the trunck and you can use them to hold other small items when they are not used for the tent.

Rebar is the way to go, you know the stuff they use for reinforcing concrete. All you need to find is a metal shop I am sure there would be plenty in Sharja industrial area. Get them made any size you want we had some about a foot long that worked well in any sand. Might need a big mallet for hard sand.
