Hello,
I've got headers on my Nissan Patrol 97... But it is melting everything around it... I had to change the lower clutch piston... and the wire which is connected near it to measure the speed is not working no more?! So any idea's of how to fix it and protect the wires ???or I should buy a new one with a good brand?! “Fox” as example?!
Regards, H.S

One answer would be to cover the header with a heat isolator ribbon. It's a ribbon sometimes made of aluminium mesh + heatfoam and sometimes made of cloth to isolate the excess heat coming out of the headers.
However, some people (on nissan patrols) have experienced problems even with the ribbon, but another kind of problem. The excess heat from the headers (wrapped with a ribbon) was now being pushed down to the catalytic converter and exhaust pipe instead of being exchanged with engine air ventillation, thus causing the cat to fail and the exhaust to run at VERY high temperatures. So be careful. Test and try.
The ribbon cost is nothing, only around 100 Dhs or something, depending on the length of the ribbon.
Another solution (this one I learned from Difflock, thanks) is to cut a square hole on the hood and install a scoop which will increase front end ventillation to the headers, heance cooling them much more than before. The air coming from outside to your front grille is being considerably used by the Radiator and AC Condenser, hence blocking air to the engine. The scoops (one on each side of the header) will make additional outside air flow to the engine + headers without interruption. It's a trick widely used by Race vehicles.

Watch out with that tape, it tends to increase rusting of your pipes due to water condensation between the tape and the metal.
Also, if you went through the pain of installing headers, might as well get the whole kit and take out the catalytic converter and go open flow all the way! ;D

Yeah but he'd have to install the cat-converter again when re-registering the vehicle, it wont make it past the mechanical test without the converter Fouad

Have a look at the pipes coming out of the cylinder block. None of the pipes should be touching each over (Nissan should take note of this). If your pipe is mild steel say 3mm approx and you put lagging on it will rust out in 2 years. Your only answer would be to get stainless steel pipe and then you can you use heat shield lagging that’s used on racing cars and trucks. This should solve your problem.
The cat, if you bin this your going to have to order a D-tronic chip from oz to bring the engine performace back in line. This will also take out the CO2 factor.

I heard that FOX headers tends to crack after a while, but im not sure about it.
I installed the FOX muffler to reduce the noise on my turbo patrol, but it reduced the power, watch out.
Borla is a good brand, i had on my wrangler for 3 years with no problems at all, i have the full kit for 4000 (this was in 2000), unfortunately they dont have it for the patrol.
