I have been sent this by the British Embassy. It's up- to you to check if it's true!
Changes to local driving regulations
These are written below for your attention. We would like to add to this that the UAE has a zero tolerance policy towards drink driving. If arrested for this offence (even the morning after the night before) then you will be subject to the judgement of the local courts and the embassy will not intervene on your behalf. We are very fortunate to live in a country with plentiful and cheap taxis, we should all ensure we use them after having a drink.
"The fine for speeding will be increased from 200 AED to 500 AED with immediate effect. Anyone found jumping a red light will be fined 1,500 (up from 500 AED) for the first offence and will be jailed for three days for a repeat offence.
Police radars have been recalibrated to catch anyone found driving at a speed of 10 km/hr more than the speed limit on any particular road. Previously the machines were set to catch only those travelling at 20 km/hr more than the relevant speed limit.
In Jumeirah, the machines will detect anyone going even 1 km/hr over the speed limit.
Dubai Police have also issued an instruction that any driver found crossing the yellow line at the side of the road, even if only momentarily, will be fined. In addition the vehicle may be impounded and points will be placed on the driver's licence. Repeat offenders may lose their licence."

Rules are true. However, applies to Dubai only. Posted with exact wording to our local news-groups in AUS.

"Rules are true. However, applies to Dubai only." This is why it's called UNITED Arab Emirates.

Thanks for the info, I have been out of the country so much, I must have missed a lot. One question though : Is stepping into the desert considered "crossing the yellow line" Fouad
