Hello friends, as I and some crazy other Jeepers took part at the recent GNFD, we were driving parallel and having fun..OUR WAY driving our modified Jeeps.. Guess what.. All of a sudden I heard this cracking noise.. from my rear axle.. hehe there went my Dana 44 upper bracket mount.. It went cracked and ripped of from the axle housing. With my killer 35" tires, the D44 is becoming really weak. My hunt after a 9" ford axles started already

Frank Welcome to the world of Jeep, a bunch of friends who had massive engine mods and larger tyres put on their cars usually went to DANA 60 axles as the diff and/or gears and shafts usually got shaffed. It's the same problem with older axle and axle casing with Landi's aka putting too much torque/strain on it with improved V8, just kept chewing through the teeth and the whole thing just didn't work.

Frank,
D44s can be made to take on 38.5s on rocks, so maybe you are not needing to change them, but rather get the right internal parts...9"ers only come for the rear too.
Good luck.

Guys, there is no way a dana 44, even top modified, will take 38 inch tires for a long time. Go straight to a pair of 60's. Do not waist your $$ on anything else....

Hey Difflock, Any good place in the UAE where I can find Dana axles and shafts aside from the regular scrapyards (Joy)? Thanks for your input in this. Cheers Jimbo

looool nice one Fouad, habeby the way I drive my Jeep, only D60's and F9ners can coop with. In fact there is a Ford 9" F axle. The D44 taking up to 38.5 could be true with some real job, there is a D60 shafts/joints kit that fits the D44..however cost here is as much as for brand new heavier axles. I have two options, selling my Jeep as is for a reasonable price, and go for a brand new one and restart the whole work (budget is around 200,000dhs) or sell my D30/D44 with 4.88 R&P and ARB lockers with the 4.5" Terrflex lift kit and the tires for 20,000 and get myself pair F9ers, Fabtech 6" lift kit and 37" tires on 16" rims (budget is 50,000)

I would love to see the ZR with 38 inch tires..... As far as finding the 60s, not a big chance here. May be I will have an answer in a few days....

Frank,
My advice would be to ditch the D30/D44, link up front and rear (4 link), and get air shocks (cheaper to tune and rebuildable) with Toyota FJ80 front axle and rear Cruiser axle...disc brakes, e-locker, cheap and abundant in the region...
My Rover axles with Toy internals (chromo) are holding up to +37s on a heavy Disco in the harsh lands of Lebanon...
YOU CAN DO IT!
(P.S., if you want the air shocks, I'm ordering 4, so we can economize on shipping)

Hey Fouad, I'm in with you there bud, went out last weekend and did some crazy stuff and twice had to re-seat 2 tyres on my mates Grand Cherokee. And pull a Landcruiser 3 times.
My motto "Blazers don't knock em till you tried 'em"
PS. when is the next trip, its all gone a bit quiet of late?
PPS. What do you think of the H3, its about 1000 kg heavier than the blazer but only 30 extra horses?

Or simply going for a D60 front and rear.. See the difference between D30/35 and a D60
