Yeah , do what I did : DUCK There's a thread but discusses normal rope recovery, not snatch, but I guess the dafety measures are the same. I guess the most important thing to do on a snatch recovery is MAKE sure the vehicle you are pulling has strong hooking points. People who have a Mitsubishi Nativa , Toyota Prados and Chevrolet Tahoes (GMC Yukon) should take extra care specially on their rear hooking points. I had problems with these vehicles on normal rope recoveries. The Nativa and the Tahoe were brand new. Fouad

But the danger from the flying object is much greater with stretch ropes! Like to be hit by a tow hitch going at 20 kph?

Personally I would use the snatch rope as a last resort and only in cases where the vehicle is sunk to the chassis. I would never use it for a crested vehicle or a vehicle hanging between two ridges.
Yes the snatch has its own risks, but being careful goes a long way.

I use it frequently - but I'd rather snatch 5 times carefully than once too hard... Again, the peak load is lower with a flexible than a rigid rope (i.e. like a strap). A flexible rope allows slow deceleration/acceleration, whereas a rigid rope has very rapid deceleration/acceleration. Fouad, I'd like to upload a pic that illustrates safety lashing for tow ropes - how do I do that? Or can I just link to another site where it's at already? I'll try... (hehe it worked) Key rules: - Secure tow ropa at both ends - at independent places and not through the shackle. If the shackle or the recover point breaks, the rope should stop any flying objects. Both ends... - Avoid splicing ropes with shackles. If you must, do the same but with a longer rope to secure. - Everyone stay well clear. WELL clear. - Nothing wrong with trying easy first, and then increase gradually. - ALways smart to get to know your snatch rope. "Stuck" a vehicle, attach the rope and lay it out on the ground so you can see where the "zero stretch" length is. Take a run at increasing speed and measure stretch distances. More later...

It better to have a good Hook or hitch on SUV all depend on them , and its much better to have a Close Hook like D shape rather then the one which is open from On end , and shackle should be thick and little big size around 3,1/2 to 4 Inches , small one first of all if you use for hard pulling most of the time they get little bended and hard to open . and they have less space for the belt or rope so more chances the end get cut , at ACE hardware 4 " inch Shackles are around 25 to 35 Dhs if any one happen to go to Sharjah after crossing from Carefoure left turn down next to bridge staright leave the first big signal on left side there are lots of shops where you can buy All quality of Shackles for max 5 ~ 10 Dhs ranging from 4" to 6"and industrial quality one and same for the industrial quality Belts for regular pulling , and still my vote for Snatch Rope

Hmmm, not a bad idea Bjorn, very simple yet very ingenious. it does save you from the flying rope, but what about the flying shackle (broken piece) ? But hey, you're half way there already. Fouad

Inam, I put the tow hook at my rear bumper to avoid shackles. Lower risk, I feel. They got all sizes at Speedex behind Oasis Center.
Fouad - from what I understand if the shackle is correctly sized it should never fail (1/2", 3/8"). What fails is recovery points. With the safety rope at least you stop the shackle from flying back, all you got is some recovery pieces flying but not as far since the rope gets stopped dead...
