---> Long snatch rope from 28mm mooring nylon rope

I have a long mooring rope which I use for serious recoveries. People have shown interest so I am offering to coordinate purchase of ropes for UAE4x4 members.

The rope is 28mm thick nylon with 15ton breaking strength. The nylon rope is quite flexible (max 50%) and is perfect for heavy-duty snatch recoveries. No more jerking, flying shackles etc. Weight is 10kg for 20 m.

The rope comes in reels of 180m. It will be cut to required length and spliced at each end. I have already purchased 1 reel (8 ropes) for another club, so pricing is confirmed:
8.5 Dhs/meter + 60 Dhs per rope for splicing
10m - 145 Dhs
20m - 230 Dhs
30m - 315 Dhs

Please reply to this thread stating your required length - I will consider all replies as firm orders. When I have 180m, the order will go in. At the moment of writing this note, still 150m left.

This will become your "mother of all recovery ropes". Remember last time a heavy car was at the bottom of a bowl... Consider 2 - one short and one long.

I was thinking of making an instructional video to show the key tricks and techniques with snatch recovery - might solicit your help... ;D

Actually we didnt see your rope in particular. Inam and I were together at the Desert Challenge in a H2 Hummer. one time we got stuck, and we only had a Prado to help us, we tried many techniques including the use of a HI-LIFT jack to place ACE's rubber tracks. first the H2 damaged my hi-lift jack, I dont know why, I used to have high regards for the hi-lift, buit after failing on me, I am not so sure. it's damaged now and am ordering the kit to fix it. the rubber mats got "swallowed" up under the H2.

When stuck, the H2 is simply tooo heavy to be unstuck by another vehicle, it was 8 o'clock at night, then sweep team came along (2 green land cruisers), they had snatch ropes with them, not like yours, but rather yellow flat ones, nonetheless they were snatch type.

They placed 2 together, the sand was so soft even the lans cruisers didnt want to come near the H2, so they put 2 together and snatched it right out, the H2 got out like if it was a feather

From that moment on, I thought, wweow, I should get me one of those , however I read somewhere that they are only good for 5-6 recoveries, after that the elasticity is used up and they won't retract back to their orginal length. hence need to be replaced, but it's worth a try. Inam was with me and saw the whole thing.

As Fouad said i saw the Pulling out of H2. first i was d**n sure either LC will be unable to pull H2 out , second thought might the hook on LC will be broken or the Rope, but unexpectly so smooth the jerk was and H2 was out.

and d**n H2 is heavy for Sand . to good on road , rocks & mud area

I had one of those yellow too, but this rope thing is superior with lots more elasticity which then makes the pull soooo smooth. As you said - like a feather. I've snatched several LC's with my 'lil Pajero.

I don't know about the "ony 5-6 times" thing. These ropes are designed to keep big vessels tied down through heavy movement, and they keep them for months/years of continuous use. This 28mm one is rated to 18 ton breaking, you should not even get close to 15% of that through normal recoveries. Of course, if you pulled a Kamaz (god forbid...) I would definitely check the integrity of the rope. If the small strands are becoming fused together then it may be time to replace.

But keep the rope out of sunlight (black rubbish bag) when not in use, it ages faster when exposed to UV rays...

I got the idea from a good friend of mine that manages a large regional oil producers port activities - he has used his for years...

I've used an ARB snatch strap on a couple of occasions. On one instance some twit drove his Isuzu into soft sand, spun the rear wheels until the rear axle was grounded, then put the vehicle in 4wd and dug in the front end. We snatched it out using my Discovery, quite spectacular as the Isuzu lept out from its hole!

Anybody using this technique needs to be aware of the dangers. A lot of energy is stored in the rope and if something breaks there is considerable danger. Shackles can be thrown around, windshields broken, rusty cross members torn out from vehicles.

Jo, you are soooo right. High risks if done incorrectly but risks are tremendoulsy reduced by using a flexible rope so peak load is reduced. I am sure Fouad has an old thread somewhere that discusses correct procedure for snatch recovery.
