Hello,
There's a group of us who are planning a weekend trip through the UAE part of Empty Quarter. I have found no suggested trips in published books, does anyone have suggested routes / tips?
Thanks,

we know that area very well, waypoints to be published soon (as soon as I have the time to update) but basically we know the area, how many cars, skill level...etc. empty quarter is no joke, if you can give me more info, I can guide you more.

Probably 4-6 cars, mix of Prado, Patrol & Pajero - all stock. We've been playing around the dunes outside Dubai quite a bit plus the Sweihan "high hills". A couple have also crossed the Wahiba's East to West. Might call us seasoned amateurs. What we're looking for is a 48-hour trip (go down Wed pm, set up camp, hit the desert Thu am, overnight Thu/Fri, make our way back to blacktop before Fri night.
Appreciate any tips you may have.

Well I can send you waypoints and camping spots and tips, but since the message board does not allow upload/download of files, you have 2 choices for me to help you : 1- wait for the waypoints to be online. 2- give me your real e-mail so I can mail you the waypoints and GPS data. you're using a fake e-mail on this board, so not much I can do if you dont want your info to be public, you can PM me or send me an e-mail. You can use the email - it's real enough, I bought the domain...
Appreciate the help.
Also, know how I can source decent maps of the area?

That's off the main site, right? I haven't been able to view the site the last couple of days (assuming it's still http://www.uae4x4.com)...

Yeah I know, it's an Etisalat Problem, can be fixed in one of two ways :
either put the proxy settings on your browser then try or simply type uae4x4.com (without the "www") if you dont have proxy settings, then try it.

Yes but I dont advise it, it's kind of tricky side stepping the border, you may be stopped by border patrols and it's easy to loose your way and end up in Saudi. Some people got held up for hours by Saudi border patrols one time. so be careful. The border patrols on both sides are very nervous people since their main duty is stop smugglers. Tourist can very easily be mistaken for smugglers and always have a tough time explaining their innocence since smugglers camouflage themselves as tourists sometimes. it's not a joke. Fouad

I would also be careful with drinks for the same point.
Alcohol is not allowed in Saudi (i used to live there and i know how much of a pain this issue can be).
