I bought one in Feb this year, and on Fouad's advice I scrapped the "Bad Year tyres" last week and replaced them with BF Goodrich AT's 285/75/R16's. I am now happy with its performance in the desert in fact to coin a phrase "Like nothing else" springs to mind. The 4yr/100k kms warranty is also worth a mention as it is very comprehensive. PS. If you do take the plunge ditch the side steps and replace with the rocker panel protectors the former act like sand shovels and severely impact off road performance. Check out some of the US based H3 forums for some seriously good feedback on this vehicle. You will find many a happy customer over there and some of their videos defy belief as to the capabillity of the H3. Moab and the Rubicon videos are especially impressive see link below. Hope to see you out there soon! Simon. www.elcovaforums.com/forums/

I had a test drive in the H3, and a couple of things surprised me:- Difflocks only work in low ratio Cannot turn of the traction control in either high or low ratio (cannot remember which!)

Hi Ron, There is three settings for the 4wd as you probably figured. The 4Hi and 4Lo locked basically locks the transfer case giving equal torque to front and rear axles with the traction control sensing wheel spin and accordingly applying the brakes to send power to the opposing non spinning wheel. If you traverse a dune ridge at an angle where effectively 2 of the tyres at some point have very little traction, the computer takes over and puts the available torque to the wheels in contact with the ground. It works very well given the right tyres. The Stability System does hinder desert travel but it can be de-activated by pressing the button on the far right of the 4wd controls and holding for 5 seconds. The Adventure spec also comes with a rear e-locker which I have found useful on occasions.

Cheers Simon,
Will be sure to check into more. Think I will try and go for a second hand as close to a year old as poss.
How is it on the highway, no problems running at full speed on SZR? And how is the visability? The windows do seem quite small.
Thanks

Iain, the H3 is pretty good on the highway, however it is not a road rocket by any means, not built for speed as they say, it is a 4x4 as you know. But cruising at 140kmh I find it comfortable. It is however very stable, and the driving position offers a good vantage point over other traffic, although the small windows do restrict allround vision somewhat, just takes a bit of getting used to. Best bet, nip down to Liberty's showroom and have a test drive, see what you think yourself. I have no regrets on my H3 purchase.
