Dear Jeep People, I am really thinking of buying a jeep wrangler 1994-1996. I need your input on this and your experience with the car.(Worst and Best) Can the Jeep Wrangle handle the Desert? Heat and Dunning..etc.. Ps. parts and maintenance does cost to much? ;D Sadig

There's a reason why Jeep's slogan is "There's only one."
Just to let you know, there was never a 1996 Wrangler. The "YJ" Wrangler with square headlights was made from 1987 to 1995, then there was a one year break where some old stock was sold off and towards the end of 1996, the "TJ" was introduced as the 1997 model year. The TJ is what we have, with round headlights and coil springs.
No matter what you get, the Wrangler is an awesome vehicle. It will handle the desert without a problem with the 4.0 Engine and light weight, and fitting wider tires is easy to do and helps significantly. Heat it can handle ok... if you're going to push it hard then some relatively cheap upgrades will help... Only problem we've had seems to be from a loose Radiator Cap.
Parts and Maintenance? You may form a good friendship with your local dealer, or for a vehicle of that age I wouldn't worry too much about dealership prices and look around for some reputable unofficial Jeep service stations that know their stufff.
The TJ is a "nicer" Jeep, better ride, the YJ is more rugged with Leaf springs, but cheaper to lift.
A 1997-1998 TJ should be available for a reasonable price nowadays... it is 5-6 years old already... and the best bit? To the uneducated viewer, they all look just like the 2002 model.
The sharp eyed Jeep fanatic like myself can spot the differences though... but I tell you, there's not a whole lot.

Are you looking for a stock vehicle or one that has already been upgraded?

Guys - neither of those links are working... You should be spoilt for choice if you want a stocker... I was going to suggest that if you wanted a modified one with larger tires it's possible to save money by getting it ready built. The trick to that though is to keep your eye out for "Poser Jeeps" - Jeeps that have been built to look good but have never been fully exercised. A good tell-tale sign of this is usually chrome Notice the front of our Jeep... We got it with low mileage, big wheels, and minimal off road use.

I dont know how rich you are Sadig, but this is a holywood preped vehicle designed for Lara Croft 2. it's ironic that an english lady dumps her LR defender for an american icon.
anyway, this is a wrangler rubicon, which does not exist here in the arab world. rubicon is the base vehicle of course, noy counting all the extra accessories.
so i would say, if you want to have an EXACTLY similar vehicle, then you would have to start with importing the rubicon, with an additional 10,000 dhs worth of accessories.
if you want a "similar" vehicle, then i would say you start with a regular wrangler and an additional 25000 dirhams.

I think I would start with a regular Wrangler and go from there. I am not rich at all and yet I don't want to gamble that much. since this is my first try to custom a car, I will buy a very low cost Wrangler and go from there. as soon as buy it I will start a new post and show the birth of the car from day one until I ran out of money.. lets hope this work..
Wrangler Hunting start this weekend

Sadig, I'm British too and I for one am happy to see Lara Croft in the Jeep... She just went from Almost Perfect to PERFECT. Just wish I could find pics of Angelina Jolie posing next to the Wrangler ;D I'm not too keen on that skid plate as it makes it look like it's got IFS, but I can see that it might help if you plough into the dunes, kinda like a boat hull. The low profile lights on the roof are very cool - wish I could find out more about them. The Snorkel is from ARB. See Ramy for that. And the roll cage is custom. Don't mess with the one you've got unless you really know what you're doing. I read somewhere that the best thing you can do for your stock cage is to inject it with foam that will stop it collapsing into itself without making it top-heavy. If you get a straw and fold it you will see that it "creases" and you get a flat point. Your tubing wil do the same so foam stops that a bit. Good luck with it and of course, don't ignore a nicely modified rig if you can get most of what you want already on it. You will soon learn that shipping costs will be quite significant as many of the things you do will consist of heavy metal items. And don't forget what Jeep stands for... Just Empty Every Pocket. Have fun with it. You'll love it. Laurie

Strangly I find that Jeep in the picture look a lot like Angelina Jolie or I am imagining it. anyway went yesterday to start the the Jeep Hunt. found white one 1993 Model looks rusty from Bellow and got some rust at one of corners of the driver door. looks nice but I don't wnat to start with rust worry in my mind.. I covered all Alain Area and this week end I am going to DUBAI..I can only dream that I don't get ripped off. Sharjah will be covered at the same day too.

you'll find good deals in sharjah, king faisal road, behind etisalat building, just ask for the car market and they'll show you the way.
i saw good deals there, jeeps starting from 10,000 dhs onwards, the average price is around 17-18K for a good condition jeep.
